Sitting for Massage Work – Work Smarter Not Harder

2-Hour Live Webinar

2 CEUs for Massage Therapists/Bodyworkers *

There are specific ways to perform massage techniques from a sitting position when the client is on a massage table and the therapist is on a rolling stool or armless chair. For best body mechanics and for the best performance of the massage technique, proper posture and placement/support of the therapist’s shoulders, arms, hands and feet are key. How does weight shift? At what height should the table and stool be placed? How should the client be placed on the table?

How does the client get the best treatment in supine or prone position when the therapist is not standing? This course will discuss optimum access to and treatment of the client while maintaining safe ergonomics for the therapist. Because it is a live webinar, students will learn through lecture and demonstration.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this class, the participant will be able to:

  • Explain how to place a client for optimal treatment when the therapist will be seated during treatment.
  • Describe proper placement of the table and stool for optimal client treatment.
  • Describe proper support and placement of the therapist’s shoulders, arms, hands and feet for optimal technique while seated.
  • Explain the differences between seated and standing massage in terms of weight shift, strokes, finger traction and posture, and whether there are differences when treating certain client body parts versus others.
